  • Green's Feed & Seed
    4.6
Charleston, WV, 314 Piedmont Rd, 25301, US

Green's Feed & Seed has been serving West Virginia since 1963. The company was founded by Mr. Earl Green, who started out as a dealer for Altman's Feed Company in 1949. After 14 years, Altman's went out of business. In 1963, Earl and his wife Shirley started Greens Feed and Seed on Washington Street where the Greyhound bus terminal sits today. Green's was at the Washington Street location until 1977. In the same year, B and O railroad called and offered him the land where the store now sits. In 1992, the store expanded to the 15,000 square foot building we have today. In 1998, the store was sold to Southern States and was under their corporate banner until 2001 when Earl bought the store back. Earl, His son Mike, and grandson Mike Jr. continued to run the business until October of 2021. It was then that Earl and Mike decided it was time to retire. They sold the business to a team of highly motivated entrepreneurs who not only wanted to preserve what the Green family had worked so hard to build– but to expand on it as well. Today, we have a location in Ripley, WV with plans to build a brand new store there, while also giving the Charleston store a refreshing makeover. Please stop in and say 'HI' to the new owners as well as our friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Emergency Plumber FAQs

Experiencing a plumbing emergency? Find answers to common questions and connect with reliable 24/7 emergency plumbers in USA through Plumbyng.

What should I do if I smell gas?

The smell of gas is a serious safety hazard. If you detect a gas leak, immediately:
  1. Evacuate your home or building.
  2. Call your gas company's emergency line or 999.
  3. Do not light matches or use electrical appliances near the suspected leak.
  4. Do not attempt to fix the leak yourself.

What is a water hammer?

A water hammer is a loud banging sound from your pipes when you turn off a faucet or appliance. It's caused by the sudden stop of water flow. Air chambers and water hammer arrestors can prevent water hammer. A plumber can diagnose and fix the problem.

How to turn off the water main?

Knowing how to turn off your main water supply is crucial during plumbing emergencies. The location of the main water shut-off valve varies; however, it's usually located near the water meter, inside your home's utility closet or basement, or outside near the property line. The valve is typically a wheel-type valve that turns off by rotating it. If you're unsure of the location, it's best to locate it during non-emergency times to avoid any difficulty when you need to use it.

How to prevent plumbing emergencies?

Regular preventative maintenance can significantly reduce the risk of plumbing emergencies. This includes:
  • Regularly checking for leaks and addressing them promptly.
  • Having your plumbing system inspected annually by a qualified plumber.
  • Ensuring adequate insulation for pipes in colder climates to prevent freezing.
  • Avoiding pouring grease or other substances down the drains that can cause clogs.
  • Properly maintaining and cleaning your garbage disposal.
By taking these steps, you can minimize the likelihood of costly and disruptive plumbing emergencies.
