The State Plumbing Board of Louisiana (SPBLA) was established in 1924 alongside the Louisiana Plumbing Law, tasked with protecting the health and welfare of Louisiana citizens. Initially, the board focused on enacting codes for plumbing protection. In 1990, the Louisiana Master Plumber Licensing Law was enacted, requiring examinations for plumbing work licenses. The SPBLA now issues a variety of licenses, including Master and Journeyman Plumber, Water Supply Protection Specialist (WSPS), Medical Gas Installer, Medical Gas Verifier, Natural Gas Fitter, and Master Natural Gas Fitter licenses, as well as apprentice registrations. The board is committed to upholding high standards in the plumbing industry to ensure public safety and well-being.
